I strongly believe in using a “whole person approach” to treating patients. What this entails is addressing a patient's problems from the physical, psychological, and nutritional point of view. I believe that all 3 aspects play a crucial role in achieving optimal health and must be addressed completely depending on the patients needs.

I also believe that it is vitally important to develop good relationships with patients and foster an enjoyable experience in each appointment. Patients should be able to trust their doctor and feel comfortable to communicate fully, no matter what their problem is. Sometimes treatment could be more beneficially served by giving patients sound advice and strategies to deal with current life problems instead of treating the physical condition itself. I want to inspire patients to want to improve their lives and understand that we are a team on their journey to recover from whatever problem they may have.

Sometimes treatment on its own can resolve a patients current problem, however, in most cases, a team approach that allows the patient and the doctor to collaborate together yields better results. Whether rehabilitation exercises, dietary modifications, and or stress relieving activities are prescribed, the recommendations performed outside of the treatment room are equally if not more important. The motivation to improve is a huge determining factor to achieve positive health outcomes.

For the past five years I have been working at the Pain and Wellness Centre, a family owned interdisciplinary medical clinic that provides a whole-person approach to pain management. I am very fortunate that many of my family members work along side me and we all contribute to positively influencing patients in a variety of ways. We primarily see complex patients who deal with persistent, chronic pain, which impacts their physicality, their moods, and their overall outlook on life.  Our practice revolves around connecting deeply with patients by addressing their physical and psychological pain, educating them on what they can and cannot do, and creating goals and accountability checkpoints to show them that change is possible, no matter what they are experiencing.

In our clinic, it is very common that multiple health providers are involved in the management of a single patient. Having a variety of experts handle different aspects of a patient’s health can make a profound difference in their recovery. This can be very helpful but sometimes the correct diagnosis and plan of management may be difficult to obtain. If we cannot be of any help in our centre, we are not afraid to refer patients to the appropriate health care provider who is better suited to handle their needs.

My ultimate goal is to help patients take back control of their lives by educating them and treating their current condition, addressing limiting beliefs that are holding them back, and devising solution oriented strategies to get the ball rolling and make progress!
